Salmon patch (stork bite, angel kiss) is a common birthmark.

A salmon patch has a distinctive pink, flat appearance. These birthmarks can appear in the following areas on your baby:

  • forehead
  • nose
  • eyelids
  • back of neck

This birthmark develops when blood vessels underneath the skin become stretched or dilated. Your baby’s birthmark may be more visible when they’re upset or crying, or if there’s a change in room temperature.

A salmon patch may appear less noticeable or completely disappear as your baby gets older.

A salmon patch birthmark is benign, so treatment isn’t necessary. Laser treatments are one option for reducing the size and appearance of a salmon patch.
